12 April: Kathak
Kathak is one of India's eight classical dances. It originates from the courts of the Mughal princes, where storytellers (kathakars) accompanied by dancers and musicians recited religious and mythical tales.
The dance is characterised by its elegant hand movements, rhythmic footwork, and expressive facial storytelling.
For this discovery workshop, we are pleased to welcome Yuka as a guest instructor. She will introduce you to various aspects of Kathak dance:
-
Counting in teentaal cycles (16 beats)
-
Recitation (Padhant) of rhythmic phrases (bol)
-
Basic footwork techniques (Tatkar)
-
Hand movements (Hastak)
-
Spinning techniques (Chakkar)
-
...
All this while learning dancing phrases and a choreography excerpt.
This cultural immersion will end with a demonstration by Yuka and a moment to connect & share over a cup of chai (Indian tea).

24 mai : Kuthu
Immerse yourself in the percussions of southern India. Originally a street dance, Kuthu has stormed Indian cinema with its contagious energy and infectious beats. First embraced by South Indian films (Kollywood, Tollywood), Bollywood has also fallen for its unique attitude and folklore. In 2023, the Oscar win for Naatu Naatu cast an international spotlight on this dance form.
Join us as we blend tradition and modernity, dancing to the vibrant track Rakita Rakita Rakita from the film Jagame Thandhiram, featuring the multi-talented star Dhanush.
This song celebrates freedom, inviting you to let go, enjoy life to the fullest and dance without fear of judgment. So feel the wind of freedom as you discover or deepen typical Kuthu moves, especially its wild footwork, and explore how to embody them with (your unique!) style.

21 juin : Bolly Garba
Originating from Gujarat in western India, Garba dance is traditionally performed in a circle during the Navratri festival. It's a joyful time when the community comes together, enjoying this dance with sweeping movements and energetic steps.
In this workshop, you'll practice some typical Garba moves, which will then be combined with Bollywood dance in a fusion choreography that's both energetic and sensual, set to the beautiful song Lahu Munh Lag Gaya from the movie Ram-Leela.
Come and share the joy of dancing together!

YUKA
